Annotation Overview

Use this page when you need to log into Tator, find the right project, and start making edits. If you have questions about which workflow is best for your project, drop by my office for a chat—I always value the one-on-one collaboration that happens when we talk through these things.

1. Log in to Tator

We recommend using Chrome, Brave, or Microsoft Edge. Sign in at http://mantis.shore.mbari.org/accounts/login.

2. Open your project

Once you're in, choose the project you want to work on. You'll likely see a few different views depending on your permissions:

3. Review your media

The main media view shows all the images or videos available in your project:

4. Filter before editing

You can definitely edit localizations one at a time, but it's usually much faster to filter first in the Analytics view. Depending on how we've set up your project, you can filter by cluster, mission, label, size, saliency, and other metadata.

If we've clustered your data, keep in mind that your filtering options will depend on how those clusters were loaded (e.g., by version or by mission).

  1. Click Analytics in the upper right.

  2. Select Localizations.

  3. From here, you can filter the grid to find exactly what you're looking for. These parameters are specific to each project's needs.

Bulk changes

If you're looking at updating more than about 1,000 records, I recommend using our bulk API instead of the browser UI to avoid any manual headaches:
